Barbara Ellen Walker went to be with her savior on July 13, 2016, four days after her 75th birthday. She was born July 9, 1941 in Twin Falls, Idaho to Gerald E. (Bud) Beat and Bessie Beat. The family moved to Bradshaw, Nebraska in 1942 where she attended school until 1955 when they moved back to Idaho. She continued her education graduating from Minico High School in 1958. On July 20, 1958 she married her high school sweetheart, Wallace Walker and together they raised four children. After their divorce in 1997, Barbara enrolled in the Medical Assistant program at the College of Southern Idaho. With a 4.0 GPA, she received her Medical Assistant certificate in 1998 and began working for ophthalmologists Dr. Hobbs, Dr. Taylor and Dr. Halverson in both the Burley and Twin Falls offices until her retirement in October of 2011.

Her creativity was displayed in her scenic oil paintings, sewed stuffed dragons, horses and dolls, quilts, scrapbooks and music. As a gifted vocalist, she sang in choir, sang solos and was the soprano in a ladies trio at the Paul Baptist Church for several years with her best friend Joann Macrae and the Pastor’s wife, Jill Dillon. She also loved camping, hunting and motorcycling in the mountains.

As a grandmother and great-grandmother, she made every effort to attend activities and community functions her grandchildren were involved in, but her greatest love was for her lord and savior Jesus Christ. Her lasting desire was for all her children and all her grandchildren to know Him.

She is survived by her four children, Terry (Judy) Walker of American Falls, ID, Tina (Tim) Fox of Rupert, ID, Wallace D. (Jamie) Walker of Paul, ID and Melanee (Art) Walters of Paul, ID, four siblings, Della (Larry) Stevenson of Glenns Ferry, ID, Jim Beat of Twin Falls, ID, Dave (Leisa) Beat of Arapahoe, NE and Sheralee (Donnie) Goss of Anamosa, IA, eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Gerald E. (Bud) and Bessie Beat, sister-in-law Janice Beat, niece Deanna Stevenson Crone and nephew Jimmy Beat.

A memorial service will be held at the Rupert United Methodist Church on July 23, 2016 at 3:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Barbara’s favorite missionaries: Dan and Karen Carlson, Mission Aviation Fellowship, Ministry Partnership, P.O. I HAD THE PRIVLEDGE OF WORKING WITH BARBARA IN OPHTHALMOLOGY. NOT ONLY DID SHE HAVE OUTSTANDING WORK ETHICS BUT SHE WAS TRULY A KIND AND WONDERFUL WOMAN. I AM SO BLESSED KNOWING THAT SHE TOUCHED MY LIFE. ALTHOUGH I AM UNABLE TO ATTEND HER SERVICE I WILL ALWAYS CHERISH THE TIMES WE SHARED AND I WILL BE ENTERNALLY GRATEFUL TO HAVE BEEN A WITNESS TO THE EXAMPLE SHE WAS.
