Jimmie "Jim" Lawrence Carter was born July 31, 1928 in Rupert, Idaho at the home of his parents Maudie Mae Wilfirth Carter and Lawrence William Carter. He passed away December 6, 2016 in Burley, Idaho at the age of 88 years old. Jim grew up during the depression and times were tough financially. He said "we were poor, but didn't know any better because everyone was poor." It was during this time that the values of hard work, integrity and honesty were instilled in his character. Growing up he attended the "Empire" 2 room school in Big Bend and Rupert High School. He developed many friendships while attending school and cherished these friendships throughout his life. He married Lois Stocking and Jock , Loa Kay, Ernie and Ted were born. They later divorced. In April of 1967 he married Cheryl Christensen Bradshaw and added Lee, Scott and Raquel to his family. Jim had several different jobs in his lifetime. His last position was with the J.R. Simplot Livestock Company where he was an area manager. Jim worked with several people and many of these co workers became his lifetime friends. Jim retired at the age of 55 and spent many years fishing, riding horses, snowmobiling, woodworking, traveling with Cheryl in their RV, and drinking coffee with his friends. As you can tell, friendships were very important to Jim and he cherished everyone of you. Through out his years, Jim lived in several places which included: Sun Valley, Rupert, Grouse Creek (Utah), and Malta. But his favorite place was his home in Elba which he called 'Poverty Draw." He and Cheryl built this home in1976 and have lived there ever since. He loved the Elba Valley and never wanted to live any place else. This was his home. Jim enjoyed a full life of health and happiness. It was not until 2008 that his health deteriorated and his loving wife Cheryl took care of him. The family would like to express their gratitude to Highland Estate Memory Care and Encompass Hospice for their gentle compassionate care for the last 6 months of his life. He is preceded in death by his parents, Maudie and Lawrence Carter, his 3 sons Jock, Ted and Scott. He is survived by his wife Cheryl, his children Loa Kay Whiteley (Ron), Crossfield Alberta, Canada; Ernest Carter, Burley; Lee Bradshaw (Nicole), Caldwell; Raquel Carter Hansen (Murray), Meridian; Kim Bradshaw (daughter-in-law), Parma; sisters Erma Rucker (Bill), of Fruita, Colorado; and Elsie Burton, Tallahassee, Florida. He has 12 grandchildren, Shawna, Rhonda, Wesley, Tanner, Jeff, Derek, Carter, Pierce, Aidan, Shaelynn, Dane and Gabriel. He also has 9 great-grandchildren. Jim was more than one can be summarized in this short obituary. He was a good husband, great dad, loving "Poppy", favorite brother and a very good friend. He will be missed. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 12, 2016 at Morrison Funeral Home 188 S. Hwy 24, Rupert, Idaho with burial following in the Riverside Cemetery in Heyburn, Idaho. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations be made to the Raft River High School Library or the Salvation Army.

Dear friends,
I was saddened to read of Jim's death, and I wish you peace and comfort at this time! I have always appreciated the kindness and friendship that Jim showed to our family, especially my mother and father. they always felt that he and Cheryl were true and lasting friends upon whom they could count for whatever was needed or asked. I always enjoyed Jim's sense of humor, and his ability to speak with me as though years and distance had never interrupted. In this time of sadness, may you find happiness and contentment in the good memories you have of this good man!

Cheryl, my parents, Orvil and Edris thought so much of your family. And Mom loved teaching your kids. She wrote an original poem for Raquel's wedding and I have it just in case Raquel needs a copy (or maybe I gave you one). Anyway Jim, with his kind ways will be missed. You all were so kind to my parents and I love you for that. Lana
