Ken passed away in his home in Minidoka on July 29, 2017. He was 89 years old.

Ken was born March 17, 1928 in Montpelier, Idaho to Ida Jeanette (Bird) and James Edgar Homer. He was predeceased by his parents, 4 brothers and 2 sisters. He is survived by Maxine, his wife of 67 years, Alan (Marilyn) of North Dakota, Debra of Minidoka, Marty (Angie) of Rupert, Randy (Lyn) of Georgia. 13 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 3 great, great grandchildren. Ken graduated in 1946 from Montpelier High School and served 2 years in the army stationed in Japan Ken and Maxine met in Clearfield, Utah. They were married in Ogden, Utah on July 1, 1950. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple November, 1962. Shortly after their marriage, Ken was recalled into active service for the Korean Conflict. During this time, he was stationed in Fort Ord, California serving on the body escort detail. There was a group of teenage boys where he was stationed that needed some direction so Ken spoke with the base commander about them and made the arrangements to start a Boy Scout troop. This is where Ken's love for the scouting program began. He served as scout master, scout committee chairman, district chairman, a member of the Snake River Council. He was also involved with the building and maintaining of Camp Bradley and was Camp Director for several years. Because of this love of scouting and his service in the program, he received the Silver Beaver Award in 1966 and the National Presidents Award. He retired from the Union Pacific Railroad after 42.5 years as a signal maintainer and signal inspector. He loved his job and the association he had with the railroad community. He was also a master electrician, doing work for the City of Minidoka and local farmers. He was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and had a great love of the gospel, serving in many capacities. He especially loved the time he served in the Logan Temple with his wife, Maxine. He will be greatly missed by friends and family.

The care provided by Minidoka Home Health and Hospice is greatly appreciated.

The family would like you to join them for a viewing Friday, August 4 from 6:00- 8:00 at the Acequia LDS Church. The funeral will be held Saturday, August 5 at 11:00 also at the Acequia LDS Church, conducted by Bishop Layne Mackay. There will be a family viewing at 9:45 prior to the funeral service. Burial will take place at the Rupert Cemetery with full military rites.

Heaven just got a great man! Ken was about as good as they come. I have fond memories of him and your wonderful Maxine starting many years ago. They've created such a legacy. Well, heaven now has someone to rewire any broken star lights. I and my Dad, Vern Walquist, enjoyed working with Ken in scouting. Growing up I would go up to Camp Bradley for service project and would meet Ken up there. He loved people, young men, and all his scout associates.
