Ronnie A. (Hoppy) Hopkins, age 64, passed away suddenly from a massive heart attack on Monday, August 3, 2020. He was born in Wiarton, Ontario, Canada on September 6, 1955.
At his request, he was cremated. Private urn placement will be held later in the Dunk’s Bay Pioneer Cemetery, Bruce Peninsula, Tobermory, Ontario, Canada.
He married the love of his life, Deborah Faye Walter, on May 8, 1999. Together they traveled the world. He loved being her Tour Guide.
He retired from the Canadian Armed Forces after 26 years of service with the rank of Warrant Officer. His military career took him all over the world. He served three tours in Lahr, Germany, which he absolutely loved. He also served two tours with the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cypress.
He is survived by his wife, Deb, his sister Paula (Steve) Gilmore of Louisville, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by both his parents, Marian and Ross Hopkins.
His military career brought him a great sense of pride. To his Brothers in Arms, he always said it was an honor to serve with each and every one of you. He would also tell you if you suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), reach out and get help. Talk to your fellow Brothers. Don’t suffer alone.
Ron had a true passion for hockey. Yes, it is true. He was a diehard Toronto Maple Leaf fan.
Ron loved his therapy cat, Stewart Little, “Stewie”. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Waggin’ Tails Rescue, Inc., 1015 “I” Street, Rupert, ID 83350 United States.
Ron only wanted to be remembered as a nice guy.
Hoppy, you were that and so, so very much more.
Cremation Services are under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home, 188 South Hwy 24 in Rupert.

I wish to offer my most sincerest condolences to Hoppy's family and friends. I had the great honor of serving with him in the Royal Canadian Dragoons in Germany in 1986-87. I was then a young lieutenant at the beginning of a military career that went on to last 32 years. He proved to be a great teacher for a young armoured corps officer and a great leader for the soldiers under his care. I will always remember him for his hearty laugh.

Oh Deb, I am so sorry to hear of Ron's passing. Your romance was such a good thing to come of the early internet. i remember traveling down for your wedding. i think of you so often because i still use the "quiltie" you made for me almost every night. It's still in great shape even if the edges are fraying. I remember how excited ron was when he was anticipating your first meeting. I remember when you and ron came to visit us in rocky mountain house. i have only good memories of you both. i hope you have people around you for support at this time. we are getting to the age where more and more of our contemporaries are dying, but it is always a shock when we get the news. Just know you are in our thoughts and in our hearts. God bless.
