Albert Keith Jackson
Born Sunday September 21, 1930
Died Friday November 13, 2020
Albert Keith Jackson, 90 year old Oakley resident, passed away at Rosetta Assisted Living in Burley, Idaho.
He was born in Pocatello, Idaho to Albert Curtis and Vera Bateman Curtis. He joined two sisters, Norma and Lois. His father died when he was just over one year old. Vera later married Ted Jackson and added a brother Melvin to their family. Keith and his two sisters took the name Jackson for their surname.
The family moved to Jerome, where Keith spent his childhood and his younger adult life. He attended schools in Jerome and met his lifelong friend, Gene Essick. They had many, many adventures together. They both joined the Army and served in the Korean War. They have remained friends and would tell stories of their many, many adventures.
Keith loved horses. He started as a jockey when he was 16. He was fortunate to have wins in this career. He also had a skill for training race horses even at this young age.
After he returned from the war, he met and fell in love with a beautiful, young lady named Shirley Krenz. They were married and started their family of seven children.
While living in Jerome and working to support his young family, he was still racing and training horses. That is when Willard Cranney was at a fair and noticed Keith’s talents. He hired him to train his race horses in Oakley.
Keith and Shirley moved their family to Oakley in 1963. Here they raised their seven children in a huge old house in the country. This house became the place for many family reunions of all the aunts and uncles and cousins.
After Willard passed away, the sons sold the race horses and bought tractors to start a farming business. They wanted Keith to continue working for them as he was very dedicated to caring for his family. He then drove tractors and helped with the farm’s cattle.
He still loved his horses, so he bought some for himself and taught his children to love and ride horses. He taught his grandchildren and great grandchildren to experience his love for horses as well.
Sadly, Shirley passed away in August of 1996. Keith’s loving family was there for him, to care for him the rest of his life. They made sure to take him on many more memorable adventures.
Keith gradually became overtaken by dementia and was residing at Rosetta Assisted Living the last two years of his life. The staff at Rosetta became attached to Keith as he was such a flirty character.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his two sisters, his brother, his wife and one son, Kasey Jackson.
He is survived by his children Kitty(Dennis)Smith, Karin(John Sherfey)Jackson, Albert Jackson, Kelly Jackson, Tina(Mart)Kearl and Kristi(Frank)Sharp, 16 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
We would like to extend our loving gratitude to the staff at Rosetta Assisted Living, a special thanks to Leandra for her help getting Dad settled in. We would also like to extend our loving gratitude to the hospice nurses and staff that cared for Dad this past year, we truly felt the care they gave him was special.
Thank you to Morrison Funeral Home for their personal care to our family.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 26, 2021, 11:00 am, at the Marion Cemetery(turn west on 1700 south) Oakley, Idaho.
