Barbara (Barb) Ann Nix Mai
November 14th, 1941- December 29th 2023
Barbara passed away peacefully from an 8 year battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Barbara was born in Wendell, Idaho to Bill and Virginia Nix. They later moved to Oakley, Idaho where Barb grew up and attended school. She was the oldest of 8 children, four brothers Keith (Carolyn), George (Jane), Gary (Tanya), Jim (Cathy) and three sisters Judy, Nancy (Jim), and Kay (Ed).
While Barb worked at Chisholm Brothers, as a bookkeeper, she met Jim Mai, who worked for the BLM at the time. They dated and married on December 18th 1964. Two years later they welcomed their first daughter Carrie Lynne Mai, then in 1970 they welcomed their second daughter Traci Lee Mai. They lived in Paul, Idaho before moving to their forever home in Burley, Idaho.
Barb worked for the Cassia County Courthouse for 27 years in the recorder’s office and oversaw the general elections. After retiring in 2007 she started doing all sorts of different hobbies from Red Hats to therapy pets to photography classes and painting classes, while traveling to see many friends and family with her husband Jim.
Barb is survived by her husband Jim Mai of 59 years, Daughters Carrie (Doug) Clayton, Traci (Tom) Hammond, grandchildren D.J. Clayton, CheyAnn (Trever) Bandy, Rachel (Austin) Murray, Caleb (Kaelyn) Bennett. Three great granddaughters Emery, Raelee, and Ayvah Ann. And 1 more on the way from the Bennetts. All her brothers and sisters and many in-laws.
She was preceded in death by her parents Bill and Virgina Nix, and many of her in-laws.
At the request of Barb there will be no formal funeral. A celebration of life will be planned at a later date for all family and friends to attend to celebrate her.

A heartfelt thank you to Highland Estates and Visions Hospice for the care you gave Barbara, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
In lieu of flowers the family asks you to donate to either the American Cancer Society or Alzheimer’s Association in Barbara’s name.

We have known Jim since High School and Barbara following their marriage. We always enjoyed being in their presence and missed that relationship following Barb's extended illness. They were never excluded in our thoughts and prayers. Barb was always pleasant to be around and so knowledgeable and helpful in the Recorders office. My friend! Ms Barbara was so very kind to me when I first started running errands to the courthouse and all the way through to when I worked at the county myself. I am so sad that she is gone-the world was an even more beautiful place with her in it!
