Dayne Arelian Hansen, 30, of Rupert, Idaho returned to our Heavenly Father on September 22, 2014 after a farming accident. Dayne was born on October 15, 1983 in Burley, Idaho to Vernon Steven ‘Steve’ and Kathy Jo (Mahaffey) Hansen; he was the grandson to Emma and Vernon Hansen and Genevieve and Lincoln Mahaffey Jr.  Dayne was named after his great-grandfather and was the first Hansen grandson born after 10 granddaughters.  Dayne spent his early years in Twin Falls, Idaho where he learned to set goals and worked hard to achieve them.  Dayne was always defined by his work ethic, which was evident even as a small child.  In his teenage years, he was drawn back to the family farm in Rupert, where his heart longed to be, and where he developed a special bond with his Uncle John and Aunt Vickie Hansen, their children Maggie (Jess) Davies, Tate, and Treg, who loved him like their own brother, and Vickie’s parents Neil and Marva Strauss.  Dayne’s life wasn’t all farm work though.  He earned his Eagle Scout, excelled in football, and was a state wrestler.  After graduating from Minico High School in 2002, he served an honorable 2-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Cabo Verde (off the Ivory Coast of Africa), where he learned to master the Portuguese language that would later help him develop strong connections and bridge the communication gap between those he worked with on the dairy farm.  Dayne went on to study welding at Idaho State University where he earned a degree, and where he first met Megan Silcock of Burley, Idaho (daughter of Robert and Leah Silcock), in an Astronomy lab, but the stars didn’t align until mutual friends intervened months later.  They had a true farmer’s courtship and were sealed for time and all eternity in the Bountiful, Utah Temple in February 2008. Not soon after, they welcomed 3 young children.   Dayne has been blessed to have the guidance of many strong leaders, teachers, friends, and role models from both Twin Falls and Rupert that helped mold him into the son, brother, husband, father, friend, and example that he was.  Although he was a little rough around the edges, his work ethic and gentle kindness set the tone for his life. It’s hard to be a boss who is loved, but he was able to pull it off.  Dayne is preceded in death by his grandparents Vernon and Emma Hansen, Genevieve Mahaffey, and his sister-in-law Stephanie Lynn Stubbs, and his brother-in-law Nicholas Silcock.  Dayne is survived by his eternal companion, Megan, and their three children, Alli (5), Preslee (3), and Cooper (1).  His grandfather, Lincoln Claybourn Mahaffey Jr. (with whom he shared a special relationship), his parents, Steve and Kathy Hansen, and his siblings, Koreen Hansen, Desiree (Carl) Crane, Chelsey (Dari) Craft, Kendra (Stephen) Pink, and Clay Hansen, as well as nieces, nephews, numerous cousins, extended family, and friends.  He was a friend to all, had an infectious smile, an undeniable laugh, a zest for life, and an unbreakable love for his family.  His temporary departure is a true loss to all who knew and loved Dayne. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 26, 2014 at the Acequia 2nd Ward Building, 20403 5th Street in Acequia.  Burial will follow in the Rupert Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 at the Morrison Funeral Home, 188 South Hwy 24 in Rupert and from 12:00 until 12:45 p.m. at the church prior to the funeral.  Arrangements are under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home, 188 South Hwy 24 in Rupert.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dayne Hansen Children Memorial Fund at First Federal Savings in Rupert, Idaho.  Now as Dayne would say.."quit crying and get to work…the farm’s not gonna run itself"!
