Robert Neil Sagers, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on September 28, 1932, in the Basin of Oakley, Idaho, to Willford Sagers and Ruth Viola Stowers Sagers, Robert’s life was one of quiet faith, devoted service, and deep love for family and community.

Born prematurely, his mother gently laid him in a shoebox and placed it in the oven to keep him warm—a humble beginning that marked a life of resilience and vitality.

Robert was the youngest of five children. He was preceded in death by his infant siblings, Gloria and Charles Sagers, who passed away shortly after birth, as well as by his sister Margene Sagers Altom (1925–1997), brother Harold Monroe “Moe” Sagers (1922–2009) and a son-in-law Sidley Nelson III. (1954-2018)

He grew up in Oakley and developed a lifelong love for the land and the people there. As a young man, Robert worked for the Pickett Ranches, where he learned the value of hard work and responsibility. He was always grateful for the opportunities the Pickett family gave him and spoke of them often with respect and appreciation.

After graduating from Oakley High School, Robert attended Utah State University, where he played on the football team. He later began his studies at Brigham Young University, where he was introduced to Jacqueline Faith Slater through a blind date arranged by a friend. That meeting became the beginning of a remarkable life together, and they were married on June 9, 1953, in the Salt Lake Temple. Soon after, Robert joined the United States Air Force, serving honorably before returning to complete his degree in Accounting at BYU. A proud Cougar, he followed BYU athletics passionately throughout his life.

In the spring of 1984, when Lower Goose Creek Reservoir threatened to flood Burley, Robert played a key role in the community response. He helped organize and mobilize the volunteer workforce alongside Rex Gerratt, who was leading the effort. Together with the Army Corps of Engineers and hundreds of locals, they helped dig a 17-mile diversion canal in just four days—an act of unity and determination that saved the community from catastrophic flooding.

Jackie, a registered nurse, passed away on November 25, 2021. Their marriage, rooted in faith and mutual devotion, was a source of strength to their family and an example to all who knew them.

After Robert’s military service and graduation from BYU, the couple settled in Burley, Idaho, where they began raising their family. They later moved to Oakley, and eventually to Willow Creek, where they lived for many years. Robert loved his neighbors wherever he lived. He found joy in helping others and was quick to lend a hand or share a kind word. In return, he was blessed with caring and loyal neighbors who often stepped in to help—especially later in life. Their genuine compassion and quiet service were a tender mercy in his life, and he expressed gratitude for them often.

Robert worked as a respected CPA in the Mini‑Cassia area for many years and actively contributed to the community, including serving on the Cassia County Fair Board. He was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter‑day Saints and served faithfully in many ward and stake callings. Among his most meaningful service was preparing 8‑year‑old children for baptism, a responsibility he fulfilled with love and dedication.

Later in life, Robert and Jackie served a full‑time mission for the Church in Kansas, an experience they both cherished.

Robert and Jackie were blessed with nine children:
Cindy Nelson (Sid), Michael Sagers (Liz), Suzi Myers (Fred), Mindy Poulton (Ross), Rebecca Pugh (Kenneth), Teresa Quast (Todd), Matthew Sagers (Krista), Andrea Gibby (Reed), and Kristen Vlasak (Mike).

Their posterity includes 39 grandchildren, 90 great‑grandchildren, and 4 great‑great‑grandchildren—all an important part of his legacy.

In his final years, Robert received devoted care from Minidoka Home Services and was grateful for their professional and compassionate support.

Robert’s life was filled with love, faith, service, and devotion to others. He will be remembered for his steady example, his deep loyalty to family, his love for the land and community, his leadership in times of crisis, and his quiet acts of kindness.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the View Ward Chapel, 554 South 490 East, Burley, Idaho, under the direction of Bishop Kevin Schroeder.
Interment will follow at the Basin Cemetery in Oakley with Military Honors provided by the U.S. Air Force and the Mini-Cassia Veterans.

Viewing will be held at the View Ward Chapel, 554 South 490 East, Burley on Friday, July 11, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., and again on Saturday morning, July 12, from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the funeral.
