Verlo Wickel, 67, of Rupert passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at home. He was born in Burley, Idaho September 25, 1949 to Virgil and Artilla Anderson Wickel. He attended schools in Malta, Acequia and Rupert. On April 11, 1969 he married the love of his life Brenda Lewis of Rupert. They were soulmates for life. To the union two daughters were born, Shanda and Kim of which he was very proud. He was a truck driver at J.R. Simplot Company for 48 years. He retired January 1, 2016. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. A true cowboy to the end. He was also a fisherman, pool player, epic dancer, Bud Light drinking bronc buster. He was known to have a sip of Black Velvet every now and then. Verlo was very much a family man and his greatest memories were times spent with wife, daughters, son-in-laws; but especially with his four grandsons. The smile never left his face while attending the many ball games and functions of his grandsons. He loved Christmas and had a large display in his yard. He even reached the goal of having his display on the front page of the news paper. He never met a stranger and was a very kind man. He waved to everyone he passed if he knew them or not "even in the dark" (this one is for you Dave Lewis). Verlo is survived by his wife of 48 years Brenda; daughters Shanda (Pat) Hughes, Kim(travis) Cantrell; grandsons Riley G. Hughes, Tyler Jayce Verlo Hughes, Michael Blake Cantrell and Kade John Cantrell; Sisters Arlene (Chuck) Kowitz, Terri (Gordan) Knopp and brother Lynn (Emily Jane) Wickel. He is preceded in death by his mother, father, baby sister Marlene and all grandparents. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the Morrison Funeral Home 188 South Hwy 24 in Rupert. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the memorial service. Cremation and services are under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home & Crematory.

Verlo left an amazing legacy and a beautiful family. He was a man that I loved dearly and was my daddy's best friend. Verlo, share a cold one with my daddy and my prayers to the Wickel family. Verlo was truly a fun person and I will miss his contagious smile and laughter.

Brenda, Shanda and Kim, we are keeping you in our prayers. I have so many wonderful memories of our families…we were always together. Stanley trips, camping trips, fishing trips, weekends at each other's homes and every holiday spent together will always be close to my heart. Uncle Verlo was a wonderful man. He will be missed so much. Keeping all of you and all the Wickel family in our prayers.

Brenda, Shanda, Kim and family,
Thinking of all of you at such a sad time. Verlo will be missed by so many people. I have so many fun memories of our families and all our shenanigans. I remember many weekends spent at each others house while dad and Verlo "were working on vehicles". And all the trips to Stanley (waking up to Verlo hollering at dad that the mountain was on fire), camping, salt lake for Easters, fishing and swimming at Freddie’s lake, Christmas tree hunting. I know Verlo is in heaven with mom and smiling down on us.
