Janet Marie (Ozburn) Baker:

Late the evening of August 9, 2024, Janet was freed from her multiple, long-term illnesses and is now no longer in pain and at peace.   However, because a life is never final until the paperwork is done, her recorded date of death is August 10, 2024.

Janet was born in Fort Pierce, Florida to Leslie J and Doris M (Vorwaller) Ozburn on December 28, 1943, while her father was serving in the United States Navy.

She was the oldest of three children and spent most of her youth in Soda Springs, Idaho.  When her sister, Roxanne, was born in 1952, her love of little babies was developed and she continued that love throughout her lifetime.   She was a sought-after babysitter as a young girl and on into womanhood.

She had her own horse at a young age and continued the love of trail riding throughout her lifetime.   She always enjoyed rodeo and was a committee member of the Dodge National Circuit Finals Rodeo for many years.  Janet also loved riding on the back of comfortable motorcycles and going on road trips. She enjoyed dancing, estate sales and was an avid camper and fisherman. (Recently, while a resident at Caring Hearts Memory Care, she repeatedly inquired as to the location of her fishing poles.) Janet has listed her son and daughter as her greatest pride and accomplishment.

Janet was a long-time employee of the Portneuf Soil & Water Conservation District in Pocatello. She found joy in her job which “did something good” for Idaho and our local farmers. Once retired, she and Vic moved to Rupert and valued their quiet, smalltown lifestyle.

She is preceded in death by her husband Vic Baker, the love of her life, as well as her parents and her brother, Steve Ozburn. She is survived by her son, Bill Waters (Matthew Davis) of Gig Harbor, WA , her daughter, Janene Taylor of Meridian, ID, her sister, Roxanne Mussulman of Pocatello, step children Alisa (Mike) Hymas of Chubbuck, ID; Angela (Eric) Ross of Fruitland, ID; Ric Baker of Warner Springs, CA; Marti (Robert) Ottley of Inkom, ID; James L Grady of Bainbridge Island, WA as well as 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

As per Janet's final wishes, she will be cremated and her remains spread near Jenny Lake, in Grand Teton National Park, during a future, private family ceremony.

The family would like to thank the devoted caregivers of Enhabit Home Health & Hospice,  Symbii Home Health & Hospice and Caring Hearts Memory Care for the gentle care of Janet during her challenging final months, as well as the dignified compassion of Morrison Funeral Home of Rupert.

“When I come to the end of the day and the sun has set for me,

I want no rites in a gloom-filled room. Why cry for a soul set free?”

“I am still here, I’m all around. Only my body lies in the ground.”
